Poems

I’m a long long way from home now,

Amidst the sea so dark and wide.

Father help these sails hold the wind more tightly now

Help me to the other side.

I see the clouds sketch out your face Lord,

The soft steady moonlight brings your words of truth,

Even the rain spells out your name

On our broken window pane.

I hear the voices of my brothers carry

On the breeze, and singing of the angels

Like a ring tone from my phone but..

I want to see them face to face.

Turn my eyes back to the deep

Where thousands never wake from sleep

I was dying and you saved me to

This boat.  Now help us to the other side.

My Jesus brings all the wheat to the barn

And it’s like

He’s better than us

Damn right he’s better than us

You could fake it

But you’d have to charge

Hang before my eyes the tree of life

And frame by frame rewind to

Where along the line

It all went wrong.

Focus on the bit when I denied

That you were God and I was

Not, and pride and sin now

Spoil my every breath.

Now pan across to where, a man gasps for air.

The designer of the skies dies

To wash away the lies I

Told so easily

Zoom out to how on earth this film will sell

Unless you know some stuff I don’t

Who can recognize this love: glory

Given up for pain.

SUMMER
Look up and wonder why
The sky is as it is.
The gently rustling leaves of trees
Whispering words of peace.
The light subdued beneath them
In flickering fairy shapes;
And all is me, is now
Is here, is bright and wonderful.

I saw you dancing on the Moon
Song based on Rev 12:1-12

VERSE 1

I saw you dancing on the moon
Wearing a crown of hand-picked stars
Your shadows swaying loose around
His love so powerfully displayed
The glittering fabric cost his blood
My dumbstruck eyes now understood
The twirling corners of your dress so bright
Can pass right through into my night

CHORUS

For the Kingdom of our God has come
Jesus reigns in me

For the Kingdom of our God has come
Jesus reigns in me

The Dragon’s lies rang through my head
Till angel’s wings replaced the screams
Christ’s blood’s now thick upon my lips
And Satan is hurled down

And Satan is hurled down

VERSE 2

The memory of the Serpent’s lie
Now distant far beyond your smile
Queen of Queens and helpless child
Your beauty fills my crazy mind
Purest virgin, mother mild
You screamed out in pain for me
The accuser of our brothers is thrown down
And the Church is glorified.

A Summers Evening
at Oakhill, London

O when all is returning to nature’s realm.
The cool stillness of the woodland cuts in -
Melting the blocks of busyness,
Sun stroking the hues and tones.

The traffic of soft white floating things, (Destination:
The End of the Rainbow), overwhelms the hanging jets
And welcomes the myriad melodies of birds –
The tidal flow singing the world to sleep.

All is ready now for wood pigeon’s cooing
To tug on evening’s peachy sails.
