The sound of ice spinning across ice…
“sounds like aliens coming in their space ship” said my 8 old daughter. And as I listened to the funny and beautiful sound echoing round the natural rock amphitheatre of the frozen Beacon tarn today near Coniston, she’s right – it does! And it’s wonderful that God made just exactly that cool sound for us to listen to on days like these. As you throw the lump of 2 inch thick dripping clear glass across the stone spattered expanse of the frozen lake, it’s not another dull thud sound; or a bang like a hammer; or a smooth swooshing sound but a new boinging pinging ringing sound that is so unique and fun that you just have to try and throw more and more bits of ice!

this page came up as a possibly related post on my site…
and i just love love love that you take a moment to give time to this particularly enchanting sound!
[it's been a while since i've heard it myself... but i know exactly what you're talking about.]
